Advent Sunday is the fourth Sunday before Christmas, and is the beginning of the season of Advent. A lot of ‘Advent Calendars’ begin on 1st December but this is not correct; the length of Advent varies, depending on which day Christmas Day falls. This year Christmas Day is on a Friday so Advent will be 26 days long. On Advent Sunday, we will be lighting the first candle on the Advent Wreath, and beginning our journey of preparation for Christmas. Advent Sunday is the first day of the church year, and we will begin a new year in our three-year cycle of readings. This year, we move to Year C.
